Alright!

Been a long month in October dealing with some big non-business personal projects recently so with that completed it’s time to get back on the kurb blog and start talking about more business oriented goals, well kinda just discussing, explaining, tossing ideas around for small business marketing and development in Auckland.

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve had the opportunity to even think about where my business is going or what’s it’s even doing so I’m really excited about this, in fact this was the first and only time that things just got so much that I actually started falling behind, but that happened plenty in 2008 and 2007 so it’s not something that’s terribly concerning because I know I’ll bounce back, it’s just about becoming more methodical in dealing with the se kinds of situations when they arise.

What kind of issues are we talking about?

- Well, clients with involved internet marketing campaigns having their campaigns drawn out, and requiring sophisticated and intensive work from me that I wasn’t able to focus on

- outsourced workers charging up hours without completing tasks that are necessary  to do.

How can we avoid these situations? Well I guess I need to be preparedwell in advance if I want to devote more time to personal projects, but it also made me realise there are different sorts of business where it’s acceptable to disengage for your own reasons - that’s fine with CD’s and Posters, but with marketing clients who ar elong term, they aren’t sokeen on seeing you become a little erratic in your activity for a whole month. It’s not good to feel the clients are being let down, that bums me out.

As a way to counter stress I’m wondering about how much I will continue to push the music marketing as I find the level of commitment expected form the clients is very high. I think I just have to pull back a little bit and just keep it at a lower level but at the same time I am obliged to keep my outsourced workers - well not obliged so much as I need to keep them working to hang on to them and the value they provide.

In the CD/DVD duplication area I have a staff member moving to becoming fully dedicated to the operational side of this, they will have their own vehicle for collecting from suppliers and delivering to clients. I’l still handle sales and marketing, and this will extend to the printing.

There’s still lots of leads coming in for all sorts of weird jobs and perhaps if I do get a new staff member then I can put them directly onto dealing with that, but seriously I need to stay away from arrangements which become convoluted marketing campaigns where I’m not being compensated, because I do want more personal time.

I’m not so much concerned with growing my busines as maintaining it at a level where I moving forward with the best opportunities - not necessarily every opportunity.
