Now that I have a little window here between now and christmas, I’m very keen to optimize my business both at micro and macro levels.

As I said, it’s been so long since I had a chance to think about business that I’m looking at both bigger goals and small.

In terms of bigger goals it’s identifying business directions that I am most keen to move forward and will be most valuable, with which is something I’ve talked alot on this blog about, usually tracking several key ideas and talking about how and why I’m moving forward in those areas and not others.

But also a smaller  day to day things because even though I’ve been stressed out doing so many different things in the last month, at the end of the day I got quite a fair bit done, simply because I had to, there wasn’t the option of messing around. At the same time that also was why there was no chance to really think, but then I had to be more decisive, and I also recognised how often I was not so much pressed for time but was at a loose end when waiting on a particular outcome.

But more specific examples include RSS, y’know I often find it almost like a job to read through everything, maybe I need to treat it like twitter, or y’know the daily peper. Why read yesterdays news? Stat checking is something I’ve kind of gotten over, as is checking adsense and adwords campaigns constantly, once or twice a day if I can be bothered is cool.

I guess mainly I just want to watch for slackness creeping in, and I think that pushing forward with delegation eliminates more small distracting jobs that get book ended by these segues from one task to another where not much gets done.

Things should be accessible online but what do I use? Email, RSS, twitter, trademe not much more than that. And often it’s hard to unplug from creative personal stuff and back into business and so forth, it would be great if I could develop more batching methods to get things done so I could create more space in my schedule.

In the bigger picture, there’s not much time until christmas to get much done. But it is a time to think about what I’ve got to do to straighten up day to day business and to decide what’s realistic for next year.

ot so much growth as focusing on the most effecient parts of my business and building around that rather than experimenting and trying to many new ideas that are going nowhere.
