Alright here we are back at kurb promotions in auckland pondering our fate.

We do CD and DVD copying, duplicating, burning, printing all that, we have lots of orders but the jobs are tied up. Some people need cheap dvd duplication or urgent cd duplication but it’s never quite communicated to us how this is supposed to unfold. But from a broader perspective, what we’re doing seems to be working - it has it’s ups and downs, but otherwise it’s fine. Could we expand our market? Possibly, but it’s healthy as it is so we just have to feel out the DVD copying and CD printing and burning etc. and see how it goes. As I’ve said, this business won’t last forever.

We do cheap poster and flyer printing and placement but there hasn’t been much demand for that recently. I’m not really concerned because it’s kind of a supplementary. I guess it is concerning but hey, what can you do, what should you do? Things have a natural cycle and just because it’s not happening right now, doesn’t mean things could change, and it’s often hard to understand or predict somethings, so as long as it’s not essential, it’s not a problem.

My new income stream is evolving nicely, there’s not much I can do to improve the situation but wait and improve my vulnerability to risk.

We do music marketing, but I feel there is supply and demand issues there. I’m not going to really have too many issues maintaining the demand for my services. I’m not sure I’m going to have to make a great deal of effort to make sure I have plenty of clients for our music marketing services, and our creative marketing directions will most likely accentuate that.

So it’s really just marketing for pirates and posters. The pirate site could be rehauled really, and also could benefit from more creative marketing including video marketing. As I said with posters, it’s  competitive, and I don’t have great insight into what could be the situation and nor is it a huge issue, so I’m happy to let that one slide.

It’s all about what to do on a monday. You wake up on a monday and staff want to work, and clients are all over the place making it hard for you to do their work, so as the manager I have to be organised.

what do you want your business to do for your life and how can this happen? How much money do you want to make? What roles do you want to perform in the business? What strategy are you going to follow to make it happen? What is your vision for the future?

Well we want to grow the business don’t we.  We want to open a shop. And then a digital marketing agency. I’ll manage a cd dvd duplication person, a music marketing person, a shop person and an agency video person and those roles would obviously overlap - marketing people could be in the shop printing cd’s.

That’s 4 staff. And a shop. Hire the staff, get in the work, lease the building.

Marketing. Branding, pushing out, doing the work to a high standard. Continue to build skills. Build the skills to execute this kind of campaign where you can provide full digital marketing successfully.

Why do I do it? Security to do as I please. I’m almost there. In fact I don’t have to do these videos, but I do have to keep psushing forward. As long as the videos are done, I can do whatever I feel I want to do.

  1. Vision: The vision is the big picture. It defines everything from the top down. It tells you why you are doing what you do every day in your business. It’s the destination on the roadmap to creating the business of your dreams.
  2. Strategies: Once you know what your customer wants, you formulate a strategy to fulfill that need. Strategies are processes based on proven concepts that you know work. A strategy is a map of how to get to your vision.
  3. Tactics: The tactics are the steps you take to implement the strategy. Its what you do every day in practical, real world actions, that lead to tangible results. Tactics are the steps you take to follow the map that leads to your destination.

Successfully implement tactics and you will execute your strategy. When all your strategies are complete, you will have reached your vision.

Daniel Masson: World Chill Out Music Journeys and Discovery

Daniel Masson is a reknowned french composer and producer famous for his worldwide travels producing mesmerizing combinations of world music and chill out music.

In this article he discusses his travels in Syria and his music recordings undertaken there.

Recording sessions at Aleppo Syria

I arrived in Aleppo at 8 p.m.It takes 4 hours to arrive by car from Damascus. Soon arrived I had a meeting with Leila Tambe as I always set up recording sessions in far off countries I visit before arriving. Sometimes it takes months of organisation in advance.

Leila is the person who has helped me to select singers and musicians I needed for this muscial trip. So after a dinner and conversation she proposed to drive me directly to the Maestro studio, where there I met the owner Samir Kwefati and we decided to begin the recordings even though it was 1am . Without a problem we laid down the music tracks - I’m very used and comfortable to make music late at night as my ears are in a better shape!

We first recorded Ara Tengerian, a Duduk player. Duduk is traditional woodwind instrument of Armenian origins. Later we recorded Abud Shamon , a musician who plays all Middle East percussions and notably the Daf . It was 4 am and we decided to end up for the night and to continue at 10 in the morning.

After a short rest in the Artist Residency of Aleppo , a very nice place just beside the Citadel , I was ready to go.

Samir studio is a great place set up at the last floor of a building with an incredible view of Aleppo. That day we start recordings with Mayada Bselis a famous female Syrian singer. We continued with Mahmoud Kualdi a bouzouk player. Bouzouk is a stringed instrument.

It was 2 pm when we stopped.  Samir had to live.

When I travel and record I have my laptop wich is my portable studio. I can record everywhere at any time - I’m  always ready to catch opportunities.

After visiting the Lost Cities close to Aleppo, I went back to the Artist Residency. I recorded Mizgin Tahir a great female Kurdish singer and Mehmûd Berazi who plays the Tambur which is very similar to Bouzouk. The next day I visited the antique city of Apame and the ruins of Saint Simeon Monastery.

Syria is an amazing crossroad of many Cultures such as Mesopotamian , Greek , Roman, Persian and vestiges of Crusaders. Later came refugees from Armenia, Palestine and Iraq who settled down in Syria . There are also many Religions; Muslims , Christians , Orthodox , Zoroastrians. The country is diverse and full of antique and modern stories.

My last recording was Rena Derkhorenian at the French Cultural centre. I remember it was a strange place for recording the beautiful voice of Rena. I have had a great time recording all these great musicians and encountering nice and true people .

I don’t forget Sabine and Nour who took me for a great visit to Damascus by night. The Syrian recordings sessions have feed my Buddha Bar Travel Impressions and Trempolino productions. I have still some unused recordings that I will work in the future  from this trip.
